Ptinter's Unite! Print and Protest from the Early Modern to the Present

Two days conference 'Printers Unite!' was organised by the Birmingham City University, The Centre for Printing History and Culture. 'Printers Unite!’ is a phrase that evokes the historic solidarities and struggles of printers and their eventual consolidation into a single trade union, Unite. Researchers from different backgrounds presented their papers engaging with 'print and protest', which applies to early modern as well as modern contexts, pre-industrial as well as industrial perspectives, from 16th to 20th century. The conference made it possible to establish broader patterns and trends over time. This two days conference took place in Marx Memorial Library in Clerkenwell, London. The Marx Memorial Library in London holds more than 43,000 books, pamphlets and newspapers on Marxism, Scientific Socialism and working class history.
