Authored by Neil Spiller, commissioned by Thames & Hudson Architecture and Surrealism charts the development of the fertile relationship between architecture and surrealism, revealing how Surrealist ideas are being put to use by contemporary architects in extraordinary ways.

 

The design idea focuses on the illusive aspect of the Surrealist’s creativity in three dimensions. The main typeface (Priori Acute by Barnbrook) used throughout the book is a playful exhibit of incongruous perspectives and twisting shapes that fold into themselves tricking the eye to shift the plane.The cover and main layout of the chapter openers are constructed using 3D impossible shapes with the typography integrated into these. The page layout has a clean Modernist feeling with a slab serif typeface which is very much of the time. The backgrounds are tints of Surrealist colours and change in every chapter.
