In 2015 Amnesty International commissioned Barnbrook to design a campaign to protest the Uk government’s plans to scrap the Human Rights Act, and establish the British Bill of Rights instead. The Human Rights Act is a UK law passed in 1998 and it means that you can defend your rights in the UK courts and that public organisations (including the Government, the Police and local councils) must treat everyone equally, with fairness, dignity and respect.

 

Because of the fast changing agenda of the government this campaign project never has been materialised.
I prepared a campaign by subverting internet memes to highlight the issues about what the abolition of the human rights act means amongst all of the misinformation that is going on about what it actually is. These memes were thought to take the form of adverts but of course they could also become authentic meme’s in themselves. A unifying copy line “Spread the word” - which refers to memes and the lack or reliable information about the HRA which we people really need to know.
